About Summer School

The Why

The need to conduct research in a transparent, sharable and reproducible manner is today one of the most pressing challenges faced by the scientific community.
Nevertheless graduate students dramatically lack a proper training on what are the good practices to put into place while conducting research and, more importantly, how to apply them.
In this summer school, you will be provided with appropriate content on what are the different practices that you might adopt from the beginning of your research journey, step by step, from study design to publication, covering data collection, storage and analysis, to improve the quality, shareability and reproducibility of your work.
You will be provided both with theoretical aspects in the form of lectures and practical workshops to apply your knowledge, covering all states of the research lifecycle.
By the end of the summer school, you should be able to make your projects more "open-science ready".

Grading

Students will be evaluated on the basis of a single report, to be submitted a week after the end of the summer school.
In this report, students will select one other student’s project and evaluate its transparency and reproducibility, through all criteria seen during the previous days. This evaluation will take the form of comments and suggestions, outlining both good and bad practices observed in the aforementioned project.
